Dr. S.K. Chaturvedi

Dr. S.K. Chaturvedi, born on 5 th April 1963 in Ajitmal town of Auraiya District of Uttar Pradesh State, did his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Kanpur University with First class and Ph.D. from GBPUA&T, Pantnagar in 1988. Dr. Chaturvedi joined ICAR services as Scientist (Plant Breeding) on 7th August 1989 at NAARM, Hyderabad. Later, after completing Training at NAARM including FET at Ranichauri and attachment at ICAR-Director of Oilseed Research (now IIOR), he joined ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research (erstwhile Directorate of Pulses Research), Kanpur in July 1990. Since then he continued at this Institute in various capacities including Senior Head, Crop Improvement Division and Nodal Officer (Seed & Farm). Dr Chaturvedi also served as Acting Assistant Director General (Oilseeds & Pulses) at ICAR headquarters in 2016. During his career Dr. Chaturvedi developed 20 varieties of chickpea and guided development of several varieties of other pulses. During last 34 years, he could attract a large number of externally funded R&D projects worth more than Rs. 250 crores. He worked for the development of extra-large seeded varieties, and gave concept for insulating rabi pulses varieties against heat stress, post emergence herbicide sensitivity, improving phosphorus acquisition efficiency and tailoring plants for amenability to machine harvesting. Dr. Chaturvedi extensively visited different parts of the country besides visiting 8 other countries.

Dr. Chaturvedi also served the Indian Society of Pulses Research & Development (ISPRD) as Treasurer, Secretary and currently holding position of President. He has been President of Society of Arid Legumes as well. He has been Editor and Reviewer for many scientific journals of national and international repute.

Dr. Chaturvedi served as Dean, College of Agriculture at Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi from 14th July 2018 to 13th July 2023. And after completing his 5 years tenure, he joined ICAR-IIPR again on 14th July 2023. Consequent upon his selection, Dr. Chaturvedi has joined as Director of Research at RLBCAU, Jhansi on 1st September 2023
