The three-day National Conference on “Extension Strategies for Sustainable Food Systems in Dryland Areas” successfully concluded today at Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi.
In his concluding remarks, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh highlighted the need for a comprehensive assessment of gaps and the development of farmer-centric models tailored to local conditions in dryland areas.
Dr. P. Das, Former DDG (Agril. Extension), ICAR, stated that technology must be complemented by appropriate policies, institutional arrangements, and stakeholder platforms. He called for greater investment in dryland agriculture and urged stakeholders to work collectively.
Dr. Sushil Kumar Singh, Director, Extension Education & Chairman of the organizing committee, discussed the importance of sustainable farm production, land and water management, and community-driven approaches. He emphasized the need for establishing profitable rural enterprises to support youth and women in agriculture.
The conference featured six technical sessions and a panel discussion, with over 30 experts and more than 100 participants from ICAR institutes, agricultural universities, NABARD, ICRISAT, and other organizations sharing insights on sustainable agricultural strategies for dryland regions.
