Seed and Farm

The Directorate of Seed and Farm at RLBCAU is committed to ensuring the availability of high-quality seeds and promoting advanced farming techniques suited to the agro-climatic conditions of the Bundelkhand region. The directorate focuses on the production, testing, and distribution of improved seed varieties that enhance crop yield, resilience, and sustainability. These efforts are crucial for addressing the agricultural challenges faced by farmers in the region.

Bundelkhand’s undulating terrain, poor soil quality, and erratic rainfall patterns make traditional farming difficult. To combat these challenges, the directorate emphasizes drought-tolerant and climate-resilient crops, including pulses, oilseeds, millets, and coarse cereals. Indigenous crop varieties are given special attention due to their adaptability and low water requirements, ensuring a more sustainable farming approach.

In addition to seed production, the directorate manages research and demonstration farms that serve as practical learning hubs for farmers and students. These farms integrate modern agricultural techniques, efficient irrigation methods, and organic farming practices. Livestock and fisheries also play a vital role, with a focus on improving indigenous breeds such as Bundelkhandi and Jamunapari goats, Bhadawari buffaloes, and Tharparkar and Gir cows. Through training programs and seed distribution initiatives, the directorate strengthens the agricultural economy of Bundelkhand, ensuring food security and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
