General Rules and Regulations for Members
  • Only registered members are allowed to use the Library.
  • Registered members are issued a library membership/identity card, it is non-transferable.
  • Members should produce their ID cards at the entrance of the Library.
  • Readers should observe strict silence and switch off their Mobile phones, etc. in the library premises.
  • For Re-issue of library membership ID card Rs. 100/- will be charged.
  • Books are normally issued for a fortnight except the textbooks, which are issued on an overnight basis.
  • Reference books and Periodicals are not issued out.
  • Dissertations/Theses are to be consulted within the library premises only. Dissertations submitted within the last five years are given for consultation within the library premises only.
  • Borrowers must satisfy themselves with the physical condition of books before borrowing.
  • Members are responsible for books issued against their lost tickets.
  • Issued books returned after the due date attract overdue charges. For general books, the overdue charges range from Rs 3/- per day to the cost of the book.
  • Readers are not allowed to bring personal books or any printed material and other personal belongings like bags, umbrellas, etc. inside the library. These materials are to be kept at the Property Counter at their own risk. Readers’ are advised not to leave their precious and valuable items like money, passport, credit card, etc. at the Property Counter.
  • Readers should not write in, mark, or otherwise disfigure/damage books, furniture, etc.
  • The library can recall any issued book even before the due date.
  • Smoking, eating, sleeping, and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library.
  • Strict silence, decorum, and discipline must be maintained in the library.
  • Documents taken out of the shelves must be left on the table. Replacing the books on shelves is not encouraged as they may get misplaced. A misplaced book is like a lost book.
  • A non-member can use the library material on the premises with the permission of the University Librarian.
  • Newspapers, magazines, and journals must be read-only in the library on specific tables and should not be taken to any other reading areas.
  • No library material can be taken out of the library without permission.
  • Unauthorized removal of anything belonging to the library will be treated as theft and dealt with accordingly.
  • Anyone who violates the rules and regulations of the library would be liable to lose the privilege of library membership and may be debarred from using the library facilities.
  • Suggestions on all aspects of the University Library services are welcome.
Overnight Issue

Book/Loose issue of a journal may be issued overnight to the members of the library. This is only from the Reference section after 4.30 pm – 6.00 pm. The next day before 10.30 AM, the borrowed materials should be returned in that section only. If there is any delay by the member then the respective member may not be allowed to borrow for overnight further. The number of documents, members can borrow at a time, is only one. There is a fine of Rs. 5/- for the delay in returning a book per day.

Issue/Return Rules

Users are divided into the following categories – their entitlements, the maximum number of books, and a number of days of the issue are proposed in the following table.

  • No book shall be issued more than three times continuously except to teaching staff.
  • Reference books, thesis, and periodicals/journals will not be issued at all and are to be consulted within the library premises only.
  • Books are to be produced at the time of reissuing and whenever asked.
  • Issued books returned after the due date attract overdue charges @ Rs 3/-  per day per book. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against the defaulters.
