College of Agriculture, Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University is located in main campus of the University at Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh). The college has been established to provide quality education and training in agriculture and allied sciences. The first batch of the students of the B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture degree course were admitted in 2014, passed in 2018 and received their degree during the convocation held on 20th January 2019. The selection of 60% of the students of first batch for Junior Research Fellow of ICAR reflects the quality of education being ensured in University. At the same time 10% of the students got job. The total students’ intake for the B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture degree is was kept 40 at the time of opening the degree programme. At present 66 students are admitted each year at the undergraduate level in College of Agriculture. During 2018-19, The University has started M.Sc.(Ag.) degree programmes in Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology and Agronomy with intake of 4 students in each discipline. Initially the teaching was managed through ad-hoc and guest faculty mainly drawn from ICAR Institutes (Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Central Agro Forestry Research Institute), Bundelkhand University and Bundelkhand Institute of Technology and Engineering, Department of Agriculture of the Government of Uttar Pradesh besides the regular scientific staff. Senior management of the University was also involved in teaching as per need. Later, M.Sc. (Ag.) degree programmes in Entomology and Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry have been started with intake of 4 students in each of the subject. The College of Agriculture has well developed students’ research farm and laboratories to cater quality research; teaching and practical learning need of the students of the B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture and M.Sc. (Ag.) degree programmes. The College has state of art fully air conditioned academic building having smart class rooms for effective delivery of the curriculum besides central laboratories. We have all required farm machinery, seed processing plant, well developed Library (including e-library), virtual laboratory and language laboratory, cafeteria of crops, vegetables, fruit trees and flowers etc. The teaching, research and extension are being supported by duly appointed quality faculties recruited through open competition. A large number of research and infrastructure development projects worth more than Rs. 1800 lakhs are being handled by the faculty members. The performances of the students in competitive examinations for seeking admission to the higher studies i.e. Master’s programme remain excellent during 2021 as 42% students qualified for higher education in examination of ICAR and 25% cleared examinations conducted by State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and SAMETI-Jaipur. Similarly, out of 21 Post Graduate (PG) students, 12 students (57%) qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by ICAR. Out of these, 12 students, two qualified Pre-ARS also.
The College of Agriculture along with its three qualifying programmes has been accredited for a period of 5 years in 2021 by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Department of Agricultural Research & Education, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
