Livestock Production & Management
The Department of Livestock Production Management is committed to providing both undergraduate and postgraduate students with a thorough education in the management of various livestock species, including cattle, buffalo, poultry, pigs, sheep, and goats. The department deals in wide range of topics such as housing, feeding, animal behavior and welfare, fodder production and conservation, farm management, livestock economics, breeding, and health management, all aimed at improving productivity and sustainability within livestock farming systems. One of the ongoing research projects, titled “Enhancing Productivity of Goats for the Sustainable Livelihood of Farmers in the Bundelkhand Region,” is currently in progress. The Livestock Production Management is actively involved in teaching and extension activities, such as frontline demonstrations, on-campus and off-campus farmer training, and advisory services, to support livestock farmers in the region. Entrepreneurship development within the livestock sector is also a key focus, with the department currently offering a one-month certificate course on “Commercial Goat Farming.” Through a combination of theoretical education, hands-on training, and research opportunities, the department prepares future veterinarians to address challenges in livestock production, promote efficient farm management practices, and contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector.
