Fish Processing Technology

Department of Fish Processing Technology (FPT) is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and extension, with the core objective of developing skilled human resources and promoting innovations in fish processing and value addition. The department plays a pivotal role in addressing local fishery resource utilization and promoting sustainable technologies. The department is equipped with three specialized laboratories including Fish Quality Assurance Laboratory, Fish By-products Laboratory & Fish Processing and Product Development Laboratory. These facilities support experiential learning and applied research, making them integral to student training and industry-oriented solutions. The primary aim is to educate students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in all aspects of Fish Processing Technology. Research focused on responsible utilization of fish, fish preservation, value addition, product development, packaging, food safety, fish by-product utilization, and emerging technologies like bio-preservation & nano-packaging and extension activities including hands on training programmes on value added fish products and byproducts, fish preservation and processing and awareness on Awareness on hygiene, sanitation, and food safety in fish handling and processing for fish farmers, women SHGs & rural entrepreneurs. By integrating academics, applied research, and field-level extension, the department aims to create a skilled workforce, promote entrepreneurship, and support the Blue Economy initiative tailored to the needs of central India.
