Soil Science
The Department of Soil Science is offering various courses at under graduate (U.G.), post graduate (P.G.) and Ph.D. level to train the human resources for pursuing advanced research in Soil Science. It is contributing to strengthen the fundamental knowledge about efficient use of soil and natural resources and taking measures for the improvement of soil fertility for longer sustainability. The Department is actively involved in research and extension activities in collaboration with the various other departments of the college and other prestigious institutes. The research is going in the context of future food production in dryland areas of Bundelkhand region in which most of the lands are degraded. To meet the needs of students and farmers by offering relevant, quality career education programmes, training and research in the field of Soil Science to build up confidence among students and significantly commit to the expectations of farming community.
- To foster high standards in teaching and education at UG, PG and Ph. D levels on various aspects of Soil Science including various practical aspects.
- To serve as a centre of excellence in the field of Soil Science and and maintenance of soil health to ensure productivity and food with nutritional security.
- To assess the quality of surface and underground water sources for the irrigation purpose.
- To disseminate the technologies and render advisory services to the farmers through different extension modes.
- Development of soil fertility map of the University Farms for proper experimentation
- Development of atlas having nutrients’ deficiency symptoms of major crops.
- Creation of phenotyping facilities to identify genotypes having tolerance against problematic soils.
- Developing soil test analysis-based fertilizer recommendations for efficient utilization of natural resources.
- Integrated nutrient-water management for promotion of natural/organic farming using Soil Test-Crop Response (STCR) studies.
