The Department of Extension Education and Communication is primarily responsible for imparting education in the field of agricultural extension and the implementation of the university’s outreach programs in coordination with the Directorate of Extension Education. The department is also involved in undertaking research in the field of agricultural extension and the development of an innovative extension model for technology transfer and capacity building among farmers, rural youth, and women. This work includes organizing workshops, training sessions, and community engagement activities aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of these groups. By fostering collaboration between researchers, educators, and the farming community, the department aims to create a sustainable and impactful extension system that addresses the evolving challenges in agriculture.
Presently, the department is offering an MSc. (Agri) in Agricultural Extension Education and a PhD (Agricultural Extension) degree program. In addition to these postgraduate programs, the department also teaches undergraduate courses. These courses aim to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of agricultural extension practices and methodologies. The vision of the department is to become a centre of excellence in the field of agricultural extension through collaborative, need-based research; active engagement of stakeholders at all levels; and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
