Basic Science
Department of Basic Science comprises the disciplines of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry. It is dedicated to providing quality education to aspiring agricultural professionals while fostering character and ethical values as integral components of the academic pursuits. It is imparting teaching in various courses at undergraduate, post graduate and Doctorate level. In addition to teaching, the department is actively engaged in cutting-edge research addressing both fundamental and applied aspects of agricultural science. Department has well-equipped UG, PG and Research laboratories with basic and advance equipment for the practical and research.
- To impart quality education and technical knowledge to UG, PG and Ph.D. students, fostering academic excellence and innovation.
- Impart research in the area of stress physiology and biochemistry of various field crops for enhancing crop productivity and nutritional value.
- To foster interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations for advancing research in frontier areas of agricultural science.
- Impart quality teaching as well as hands on training for effective learning to the students and researchers.
- Conduct basic and applied research in crop physiology and biochemistry related to current problems in agriculture.
- Develop multi-disciplinary research programmes with major disciplines of Agriculture like Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Soil Sciences and Horticulture.
- Abiotic Stress Physiology- Evaluation, phenotyping & physiological characterization of tolerance to major abiotic stresses in cereal, pulses and oilseed crops.
- Plant Nutrition- PUE and NUE through physiological and molecular interventions.
- Physiological manipulation- Enhancing source activity and sink potential in crop plants for higher economic yield.
- Photosynthetic efficiency- Study of photosynthetic efficiency and assimilate partitioning under changing climatic conditions.
