Fisheries Resource Management

The Department of Fisheries Resource Management is dedicated to the sustainable utilization, conservation, and management of inland water bodies of Bundelkhand region. Recognizing the importance of fisheries in supporting rural livelihoods and nutritional security, the department is committed to scientific management and conservation of inland fishery resources, including rivers, reservoirs, ponds, tanks, and seasonal water bodies. The department is determined to build a strong academic and research foundation to focus on resource assessment, stock enhancement, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem-based management practices suitable for the semi-arid conditions of Bundelkhand region. Rain-fed water bodies, minor rivers such as Betwa, Ken, Dhasan, and Yamuna, and community-based fisheries management systems are the main focus of the department. Through its curriculum, field training, and research programs, the department aims to equip students with state-of-the-art facilities for studying the aquatic species diversity of Bundelkhand region. The department has planned to equip modern tools such as GIS, remote sensing, habitat modeling, and eDNA monitoring. The department also works closely with local fishers to impart modern techniques of open water aquaculture.
